Membership contributions made to The Friends of the Museum in the form of annual membership dues help The Friends accomplish its mission to provide support to the functions of the Museum. We offer two types of memberships:
Endowment Gifts are placed in a permanent self-sustaining fund (The Friends of the Museum Administrative Endowment) that allows only a portion of the interest earned to be expended on the operations of The Friends. Ten percent of the interest earned is re-invested in the fund to assure long-term growth of the Endowment. These gifts provide a lasting source of income for The Friends of the Museum organization and are an essential component of the long-term prosperity of The Friends.
Annual Appeal Gifts are made to The Friends of the Museum in support of the organizations mission, new initiatives, and operations. A gift to the Annual Appeal is used to support and advance Museum and Friends programming, maintain and improve facilities, and support the preservation of maritime history.
Donations may be made to any specific department or program and those funds will be earmark accordingly. Cash donations are the simplest and most popular type of charitable giving. Gifts may be made at any time and designated for a particular use, or you may wish to contact the Friends office and we will help you direct your gift as you see fit.
Gifts-in-Kind are donations to The Friends of the Museum that are not monetary contributions. Donations of goods, services, cars, boats, tools, etc. are common and help in the support of the various museum and Friends programming. Contact the Friends office for help in arranging an in-kind gift.
Matching Gifts are donations from companies who match their employee’s charitable contributions- some companies match employee contributions two or three times the amount of the gift. Be sure to inquire with your employer as to their matching gift program.
Boat Donation carries a favorable tax deduction for the donor due to “related use”. The contributed property is related to the non-profits exempt purpose and the donor is entitled to a charitable deduction for the full, fair market value of the property, subject to minimum restrictions. Learn more about boat donations. For more information on ways you can support the NC Maritime Museum in Beaufort through The Friends of the Museum please contact the Friends Director of Operations, Brent Creelman at 252-728-2762 or firstname.lastname@example.org
Gifts of Stock are an easy way for donors to eliminate the capital gains tax and receive an income tax deduction. The value of the stock is preserved in support of The Friends and the Museum. Stock transfers are easy and quick and can result in significant tax advantages to the donor and benefit the museum.
Planned Gifts are a long-term way of supporting both The Friends and the Museum. Planned giving postpones The Friends’ use of the gift until a specific future date. This type of giving benefits the donor and The Friends and affords the donor tax benefits according to the type of donation. Contact the Friends office for more information on how this type of gift benefits the museum and the donor.

The Friends goes the extra distance to ensure that our state’s maritime heritage will always be preserved and cherished and that our citizens will have access to it.
The Friends membership values the coastal communities, both past and present. Their commitment is reflected through their dues, donations, and volunteer hours, which assist in supporting museum programming and exhibits.
